Lough Inshagh Trail & St. Colmcille’s Birthplace

(Orange) 3.5km moderate walk

This is a linear walk leading from Church Hill village to the beginning of the Lough Inshagh Trail in Gartan. Passing Gartan Lough, the river Lennon and Lough na Cailli the scenery is truly breath taking.

The route passes Glebe House and Gallery and ends at St. Colmcille’s Birthplace. From here, join the Lough Inshagh Trail (8km) which winds through the beautiful mountains of Glenveagh National Park to Glenveagh Castle.

Gartan Estate Walk

(Red) 5km moderate walk

This looped walk begins in Church Hill village and winds through Gartan Estate along the shores of Lough Gartan. Enjoy the beautiful grounds of the estate, passing the Colmcille Heritage Centre and Gartan Outdoor Education and Training Centre.

The Quarter Walk

(Purple) 14.5km moderate walk

This looped walk begins in Church Hill village leading around the western shore of Gartan Lough through the rugged landscape of the Derryveagh hills.

The area is steeped in history with the route passing the sites of the Derryveagh Evictions where over 240 people were evicted from their homes in April 1861. The spectacular scenery continues as you pass Glebe House and Gallery and return to Church Hill.
